My Name, Midichi: A Story of Identity and Purpose
My parents named me Kwame S. Asafu-Adjaye—a Ghanaian name rooted in my heritage, chosen for this flesh, the name I carry in this world. But in the spirit realm, God named me Midichi. I discovered this name during a moment of prayer in 2013, while seeking an answer to a heartfelt question.
The prayer was simple: “God, I want a professional art name that’s easy for everyone to pronounce.” A few days later, as I was writing, the answer came to me:
“Add ‘Chi’ to your nickname, ‘Midi.’”
“Midi plus Chi: Midichi.”
And so, I did.
The name Midi has its roots in my junior high school days in Ghana. Back then, it was an acronym for “Mr. I Does It.” I earned that nickname for my reputation as someone who got things done—a problem-solver who made ideas reality. It stuck with me, a badge of my determination.
The Origin of “Midi” . In junior high school, I was nicknamed Midi , an acronym for “Mr. I Do It.” It stuck because I was known for making things happen—turning ideas into action, solving problems, and taking initiative.
After adopting Midichi, I began to reflect on the deeper meaning of “Chi.” I learned that in many cultures, “Chi” represents “life force” or “divine energy,” the spiritual spark that fuels creativity and purpose. Adding it to Midi felt like merging my earthly identity with my higher calling, blending my human efforts with divine guidance. It wasn’t just about creating a professional name—it was about aligning my work with something greater than myself.
This name, given in 2013, is more than a label—it’s a reminder of who I am spiritually and the mission I carry. Midichi is my God name, a symbol of alignment between my human efforts and divine guidance. Midichi is here to serve human beings through creativity.
